ZONE 1: THE NATURAL WORLD (Back Wall)

The heart of the exhibition, grounding mechanical motion in organic nature.

1. Koru
A vibrant exploration of the unfurling fern frond. Utilising a classic palette of stained wood, this piece signifies new life and the perpetual cycle of growth.

2. Breathing Forest
This unique wooden clock with moving gears features a unique frame that organically expands and contracts over the course of the day.

3. Tragic Beauty
A solemn and striking tribute. Large red poppies inside a black wreath of remembrance, contrasting the striking beauty of wildflowers with the dark sacrifice of human life.

 

ZONE 2: THE MACHINE WORLD (Left Wall)

A celebration of industry, geometry, and the subversive side of engineering.

4. All Black
Surrounded by layer upon layer of blackness, look closely and you will see that time still passes in the dark.

5. Counting Back
Inspired by Alice in Wonderland. With its jumble of numbers, the mechanism runs perfectly, just not in the traditional direction!

6. Dancing Clock
Have you ever seen a clock dance? Once a minute, when there is an audience, this clock stops telling the time to perform one of its repertory of choreographic works.

7. Wasp 1830  
Inspired by a radial aircraft engine from the 1930s, watch the seven cylinders fire up into a colourful sequence of inlet-compression-combustion-exhaust, inlet-compression-combustion-exhaust.

8. Times Square
Bright crystal cut gears rotate above a grey and black pattern. This piece celebrates the geometry of fifteen squares of light spiralling around the clockface to represent the sixty minutes of the hour.

9. Touch of Colour  Multi-coloured radial fins frame a centre of continuously changing patterns on a white background.

10. Chromium
Clean, cold metallic minimalism. The silver mirror finish focuses the eye on precision rotation.

 

ZONE 3: THE RADIANT WORLD (Right Wall)

Warmth, opulence, and glow: sun, gold and shadow intertwine.

11. Japanese Chrysanthemums
Finished with gold mirror, this piece radiates an air of Eastern opulence. Light plays across the colourful wheels, turning the passage of time into a shimmer of gold.

12. Sunflowers
Inspired by fields of French ‘tournesol’, nine sunflowers in different shades of yellow, move within a frame of dark petals.

13. Quantum Ring
Showcasing a ring of 120 coloured lights, under computer control, the ring can perform in countless ways determined by the creative mind. What is it doing today?

14. Hesitation
A hypnotic study in patience. Featuring wooden rings, with gold patterning and brass fittings. These rings do not flow continuously, but swing, pause and hesitate, creating a rhythm that invites the viewer to wait and watch.

15. Persian Geometry
Dedicated to the long-suffering people of Iran. Inspired by traditional Persian art, this clock is framed by a pomegranate-red ring and turquoise stars, surrounding moving trios of mandala gears that represent the sky and sea moving over the earth.

16. Spiders' Nest
A web of overlapping metallic cords creates a silky lair. Watch out for the spiders!

 

ZONE 4: THE PERFORMANCE WORLD (Side Wall)

Where art moves, flows, and dances.

17. Oversized Digital Clock
Currently set to "Lava Lamp" mode, this digital canvas turns the measurement of time into a viscous, flowing display of liquid colour.

18. Endless Flow
A landscape in motion. This beach-inspired piece captures the relentless flow of sand using traditional hourglasses.

19. Trinity
An endless triangular interplay of geometry, colour and contrast.

20. Transparent Desk Clock
Look! A see-through clock!  This freestanding piece invites the viewer to inspect the beauty of engineering and the endless passage of time.
